Reduce Single-Use Plastic Consumption
We all know the impact that plastic waste has on our environment. Reducing our single-use plastic consumption is something that we can all do to help drive the market toward more sustainable options. We need your support to help even more people make the move away from single-use plastics!

Why Help Us Reduce Single-Use Plastics?

Plastic is durable, strong and last-lasting… that’s why they take about 450 years to decompose! So why do we design plastic products to be used just one time when there are other options available?
Non-essential single-use plastic creates senseless waste in our environment.
We want to change that!
Please help us fund our work today so we can engage more consumers to choose sustainable options over single-use plastics to help drive the market away from unnecessary plastic waste!
What is Single-Use Plastic & Why is it a Problem?
Single-use plastics, or disposable plastics, are used only once before they are thrown away or recycled.
We produce roughly 300 million tons of plastic each year and 150 million tons of it is disposable!
World-wide only 10-13% of plastic items are recycled.

The most common single-use plastics found on beaches are (in order of magnitude): cigarette butts, plastic beverage bottles, plastic bottle caps, food wrappers, plastic grocery bags, plastic lids, straws and stirrers, and foam take-away containers.
We all must recognize that not all single use plastic is bad! There are instances, for example in medical use, where the use of single-use plastic is necessary.
What we’re looking to do is to reduce unnecessary single-use plastics.
Impact of Single-Use Plastics
If we don’t improve our consumption patterns and waste management practices, by 2050 there will be around 12 million metric tonnes of plastic litter in landfills and in the environment

Environmental
Impacts
- Contaminates soil & water
- Chokes waterways & exacerbates natural disasters
- By 2050, an estimated 99% of seabirds will have ingested plastic

Health
Impacts
- Blocks sewage systems & provides breeding grounds for mosquitoes, raising the risk of malaria transmission
- Releases toxic chemicals and emissions if burned
- Welfare losses (visual pollution)
- Contaminates the food chain

Economic
Impacts
- Economic losses in tourism, fishing, real-estate and shipping industries
- High transportation costs for recycling lightweight foamed plastics
- Future economic investments in the removal of accumulated plastic litter in the environment
